Koukounaries Beach

Get ready to soak up some golden Greek sunshine and recharge your batteries on Koukounaries Beach. It's impossible to miss the beach, which is the centrepiece of this part of Skiathos and one of the longest on the island. Feel the light gold sand between your toes as you make your way to a sun lounger. Sit back under a thatched sun shade, or let the Mediterranean sun warm your bones.

When it's time to cool off, the turquoise Aegean waters are waiting for you. Backed by pine trees that offer shade if you need to seek shelter from the hot sun, Koukounaries Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag. The bay is immaculate, and as the sea stays nice and shallow close to the shore, it's perfect if you have young children.

When you get hungry, tuck into a picnic on the sand, or pull up a chair at one of the traditional tavernas that line the beach. Enjoy some famous Greek hospitality as you order a refreshing salad or freshly cooked kebab, or sip on a cool drink at one of the bars.

With your energy levels on the rise, it's time to have a go at some of the watersports available. Cruise along gently in a pedalo, zip around the bay on a jet ski, or choose a white-knuckle rubber ring ride. If you want to have even more fun, walk a kilometre west along a woodland path and listen to the DJs playing their tunes at Banana Beach.

Carry on your evening with a visit to La Bussola Bar, where you can sip a chilled beer or sample a fruity cocktail as you plan the next day's trip to the Castle of Skiathos.
